awww…these two were my favorites in “Boys Over Flowers” 😦 every time Jandi and JunPyo act up, I always can find relief watching this couple♥

Kim So Eun will be appearing on the February 18th episode of Happy Together Season 3 to promote her new drama, A Good Day For The Wind To Blow where she was asked about her relationship with Kim Bum. If you didn’t know, Kim So Eun and Kim Bum were a couple in Boys Before Flowers and were coined as the SoEul couple by fans.

Before Boys Before Flowers, they were actually on really good terms with each other as they were both majoring in film studies at Chung-Ang University. As a result, they got along really well with each other during filming and their chemistry showed.

They maintained contact with each other even after filming ended and also collaborated together on several CFs.

Kim So Eun expressed, “After the drama ended, our relationship became kind of awkward because of all the scandals. Although we still have a good relationship like in the past, we couldn’t contact each other in the aftermath of all the scandals. Even when we meet at the tv station, it becomes very awkward between us.”

►►KBS Korean dramas to air in Central and South Americas

Lucky from the Central and South Americas are gonna see Korean actors and actresses on their little TVs soon!

2002 KBS TV series “Winter Sonata” starring Hallyu stars Choi Ji-woo (left) and Bae Yong-joon

A number of Korean television dramas are set to air in several Central and South American countries, according to Korean public broadcaster KBS on Monday.

KBS Media, who sells the network’s programs overseas, announced that they sold the popular TV series “Winter Sonata”(2002) and “Autumn in My Heart”(2000) to Hispanic distributor Latin Media at the “NATPE 2010” conference, held January 25 thru 27 in Las Vegas.

“NATPE 2010”, which stands for the National Association of Television Program Executives, is an annual event attended by television industry officials from all around the world.

Many more Korean dramas — including “Boys Over Flowers”, “Full House” and “Mr. Goodbye” — have broadcasting contract in pending, KBS said, after which they are set to air in Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

The Korean broadcaster had been airing its dramas in Central and South American countries for free so far to expand its market and gain viewers. In 2006, “Winter Sonata” and “Autumn in My Heart” were broadcast in 11 countries in the region through a promotional alliance with Korea Foundation.

Hallyu dramas will be shown Arab countries as well. KBS Media is reportedly processing a deal with the region’s satellite broadcaster Middle East Broadcasting Center to air the hit 2009 dramas “Boys Over Flowers” and “My Fair Lady”.

►►Real life Boys Over Flowers’ F4 hits reality show

When I say “real life”, I do mean real life…they aint no flower boys though =.=; but of course, they got enough dough in their pockets..

After the huge success of Boys Over Flowers, it seems someone thought having a reality show following the lives of four real life rich flower boys would be a good idea. Coming soon to Korean cable channel On Style is Papa Rich (파파리치), which will follow the luxurious life of four young chaebeols. The four players in this show are: Eom Seong Mo, 25 the son of a medical family that owns several hospitals; Yoon Suk Min, 25 son of parents who own a financial group; Kim Hyung Woo, 21 grandson of the K Group; and Park Jae Young, 20 grandson of the M Company.

The show follows their life in which their family’s fortunes puts them in the top 1% of the Korean population in terms of wealth. They have allowances in excess of ₩20,000,000 ( yes, all those zeros are correct – about $20,000) a month, drive luxury foreign cars, and ‘hang out’ with friends in ways beyond what most of us are able to. The four are said to have different and interesting personalities and the show will follow all aspects of their life not just the happy and fun stuff, but also all the stress and difficulties they experience. They grew up going to all the upper class schools, leading somewhat sheltered lives, and have much pressure on them regarding their futures. Hmmm, talk about life imitating art. I wonder if one of them will fall in love with the plucky daughter of a dry cleaner, and then his mom finds out and goes ballistic, but then his best friend falls in love with her too?

►►Top 10 stories (breaking news) for Korean Entertainment in 2009

Year 2009 is a mix of triumphs and failures for the Korean entertainment industry.

The popularity of hallyu, or the Korean wave, continued to captivate fans in different Asian countries, notably Japan and in the Southeast Asian region. One girl band succeeded in entering the Billboard charts.

From the rise of musical and film talents to scandals, 2009 was a vibrant (and bitter) year for Korean entertainment.

Here’s our top 10 stories for 2009:

1. TVXQ and Super Junior lawsuits…
2. Boys over Flowers…
3. Rise of girl bands
The success of Girls Generation (or SNSD), Wonder Girls, and 2NE1 proved that 2009 was a year for female pop groups in Korea. The year marked the rise of girl bands in K-pop. Besides the three, other all-female K-pop groups who’ve made significant impact include Brown Eyed Girls, T-Ara, KARA, Davichi, 4Minute, f(x), and After School. SNSD ruled Korea in 2009 with their song “Gee” and bagged major awards.
4. Wonderful Wonder Girls
Entering the US entertainment industry has been a dream for many Korean artists—one that Wonder Girls successfully fulfilled this year. Not only did Wonder Girls tour with the Jonas Brothers, their song “Nobody” entered the Billboard Top 100, a first for a Korean pop group. They will launch their first US album next year.
5. Jaebum leaves 2PM…
6. Suicide… [Jang Ja-Yeon, Woo Seung-Yeon]
7. Rain’s lawsuit…
8. Korean stars enter Hollywood… [Lee Byung-Hun, Rain, Daniel Henney, Jeon Ji-Hyun]
9. Korean film “Thirst” triumphs in Cannes…

Although 2009 has been bad for some artists, Kim Hyun Joong (SS501) certainly had his big shot this year as a debuting actor.

►►Top Celebrities who took 2009 by surprise

2009 yielded many surprises for the entertainment industry – some good, some bad. While there was an unfortunate series of events that plagued Korea throughout the year, a few chosen ones experienced an explosive popularity that prompted the big question, ‘Where have you been hiding?’

The IS Entertainment team created a shortlist of Korean celebrities who could be classified as an unexpected sensation this year. Here are their biggest surprise celebs of 2009.

Characterized as “beastly idols,” 2PM was unveiled to the public for the first time in 2008 through the Mnet reality program Hot Blood, which documented the rigorous training that JYP trainees undergo. After undergoing a process of elimination, the 7-member idol group was finally formed; they debuted with their first single 10 Points Out of 10 Points. Despite their acrobatic choreography, catchy beats and ridiculously adorable butt dance (which, in my opinion, should have exceeded the popularity of Kara‘s), they did not manage to receive large-scale recognition. However, 2PM rose to stardom when they returned to the music scene with chart-topping tracks like Again and Again and I Hate You during mid-2009. Although Jaebeom‘s MySpace controversy and eventual departure from 2PM created huge bumps in the road for the group, it became an opportunity for both Korean and international fans to unite and demonstrate their support for 2PM with seven members through flash mobs, petitions and charity donations. Recently, 2PM made a comeback as 6 members, sporting a manlier and more mature concept with Heartbeat, which has been snagging awards left and right.

One of the biggest surprises of this year was Kim Yoo Jin, otherwise known as UEE of After School. She joined the girl group in late 2009, but was not well-received by Korea at first. Because of her long and toned legs, UEE was the center of the ‘honey thighs’ syndrome that took the nation by storm. Only four weeks after her debut, UEE was chosen as the advertisement model for a cellphone company, clothing line, and soju brand. Within five weeks, she landed roles in MBC‘s Queen Seon Duk and SBS‘s You’re Beautiful as an actress. Who would have thought this Sohee/Moon Geun YoungWonder Girls rapper Yoobin‘s friend would have risen to fame this easily and this fast? Although some of you may still not be very fond of this long-legged beauty, there’s no denying the fact that UEE has made notable achievements during this year alone – as a beginner in the music/show biz, no less – that grants her bragging rights for the rest of her life. Whether you believe it or not, UEE has contributed to After School’s rise in popularity – so much so, that the group’s comeback song should have been named after her: Because of U-EE.

►►Jang Geun Suk rejected the Goo Jun Pyo role?

On the latest episode of KBS Shin Dong-yup and Shin Bong-sun’s Champagne, it was revealed that Jang Geun Suk turned down an offer to play the rich meanie Goo Joon Pyo in the hit drama series Boys Over Flowers!

https://i0.wp.com/i47.tinypic.com/m9x6h0.jpg

Jang Geun Suk explained that, as he was looking at potential projects, the two dramas that really caught his eye were Beethoven Virus and Boys Over Flowers. He wanted to do both but felt that Beethoven Virus had more to offer as a learning experience since many senior actors would be appearing on the show. With that in mind, he got a role in Beethoven Virus, and the role of Goo Joon Pyo eventually went to Lee Minho.

Jang Geun Suk seems to have no regrets, and said that Lee Minho portrayed the character well and that, if Jang Geun Suk had taken on the role, it might not have been as good. Perhaps Jang saw the success of Boys Over Flowers and decided to make it up by starring in You’re Beautiful, another show with a large teen fan base.

►►Top artist/actor search of 2009 on Nate and Naver

For those who don’t know, Nate and Naver are virtually the two biggest search portals in Korea. So making this chart would mean a lot 😉

Above (Top artist search: [1]2NE1 [2]2PM [3]SNSD [4]After School [5]Kara [6]f(x) [7]Brown Eyed Girls [8]G-Dragon [9]Lee Seung Ki [10]4Minute) (Top actor search: [1]Lee Minho [2]Koo Hye Sun [3]Han Hyo Joo [4]Han Yeh Sul [5]Park Bo Young [6]Lee Jun Ki [7]Kim Bum [8]Yoon Eun Hye [9]Shin Sae Kyung [10]Jang Geun Suk)

Usually, being the most searched celebrity on a search engine shows the fame that a certain person has. Well 2009 wasn’t any different for these headline hoggers.

The most searched artists on Korean search engine and media portal Nate.com in 2009 was the new girl group 2NE1. They debuted with their single “Fire” in May of this year. So in over half a year, they became the most searched artists on Nate. What a big achievement considering the fact that 2PM and SNSD came in second and third respectively.

►►Goo Hye Sun attended the Taiwan Yahoo! Awards as Best Asian Actress

Goo Hye Sun jjang! She’s so modest in her clothing style these days :-0

https://i0.wp.com/i45.tinypic.com/243nwoh.jpg

The Yahoo! 奇摩 search popularity 2009 awards took part today, GHS who won the overseas female entertainer category came to accept her award. She will be directing a musical movie, and hopes to work with Luo Zhi Xiang (aka Na Ji Sang, who won the best male singer award) in a movie.
(T/N: Luo Zhi Xiang was one of the male MC’s for the 100% Entertainment program that GHS and LMH attended when they visited Taiwan in the summer to promote Boys Over Flowers. Luo Zhi Xiang was the better looking guy who did the nobody dance in the 100% Entertainment program recording that time.)

The Yahoo! 奇摩 search popularity awards 2009 took place at the Grand Formosa hotel in the afternoon. GHS, the female lead for the korean version of “Hana Yori Dango” appeared in a black pant suit, looking cool. This marks her second visit to Taiwan, she pronounced her own name in Mandarin and was surprised that she has such a huge amount of fans in Taiwan.

Her hairstyle was different from her earlier visit. GHS said she opted to change her hairstyle so she can also change her mood as she’s going to start directing her first music movie. She mentioned that an actor/actress only needs to be in charge of his/her role/character, but a director would have to be in charge of everything pertaining to the project.

GHS said she’d be willing to act in a movie directed by a Taiwanese director if the opportunity presents itself. Amongst those in the Taiwanese entertainment circle, she most wishes to work with singer Luo Zhi Xiang. She remarked that he is very humorous.

►►Goo Hye Sun revealed to Taiwan audience, “Alcohol is my friend”

I really don’t know if she’s joking or not but I don’t think this is a good thing (?) haha but Lee Min Ho knows..

Goo Hye Sun and Lee Min Ho went to Taiwan to promote Boys Over Flower for 3 nights and 4 days. A fact about Goo Hye Sun liking her drinks shocked the audience.

On the 3rd day at the Taiwan Press Conference for Boys Over Flower, Lee Min Ho divulged that, “Goo Hye Sun likes to eat. She likes to drink even more”, making Goo Hye Sun embarrassed and flustered.

Following, Goo Hye Sun spoke in Chinese, “Alcohol is my friend”, making the entire room burst out in uncontrolled laughter. Goo Hye Sun says, “I used to learn Chinese language as a child. While visiting Taiwan, I learn to love the Chinese language even more. When I return home, I plan to re-learn Chinese.” Fans were excited and entusiastic about what Goo Hye Sun said.

Lee Min Ho and Goo Hye Sun also had breakfast on the 3rd with 10 fan members. After having some dim sum for lunch, they left for the airport. About 500 people crowded the airport to bid farewell to these two stars that they barely made it to the plane en route for Korea.

►►Jung Yong Hwa, “I did a lot of research by watching Hyun Joong in ‘Boys Before Flowers’”

Am I the only one who thinks Yong Hwa did a better job (for the most part at least) at acting out the ‘perfect guy’ character in “You’re Beautiful” as opposed to Kim Hyun Joong in “BOF”?

http://jaycee05.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/img0402_20091106101716_1.jpg
20 years old Jung Yong Hwa received 3 invitation calls at the same time. This was because Jung Yong Hwa captured the hearts of many female fans in the recent broadcast Korean TV drama ‘You’re Beautiful’ where he acted as a gentle smiling angel, Kang Shin Woo.

He was also selected as the new host in the new series of ‘Sunday Sunday Night’. Comparing to the three years effort to prepare the band which their album will be released in January next year, Jung Yong Hwa expressed: “I feel good in Year 2009.”

With the height of 180cm, Kang Shin Woo showed concern and took care of Go Mi Nam (who disguised herself as a man and joined in the band). He was just like an guardian angel. Because of one towel and one glass of milk, he was given the nickname as ‘Towel Guy’ and ‘Milk Guy’.

Jung Yong Hwa said: “Actually I do alot of research and studies after watching Hyeong Kim Hyun Joong (Brother Kim Hyun Joong) in ‘Boys Before Flowers’. The writers told me not to be too mushy and corrected me alot. It’s a band’s story, therefore it’s good that I know how to play the guitar.”

Jung Yong Hwa was very fond of music when he was in high school. At the same time, they found a planning agency. 4 twenty-year-old boys form the band name ‘CN Blue’. They held promotional activities in Japan before their album debut. Their company mentioned that they have to taste some bitterness (take the hardships) if they want to make music. According to their company instructions, CN Blue began their street performances in Tokyo in May this year.

“Obviously we do not know how to speak Japanese, we had ever been arrested by the police when we performed on the streets. Recently the band’s popularity increased because of the drama. Right now we have been invited to the Rock Music Festival.” said Jung Yong Hwa.
