►►Lee Byung Hun is cleared of illegal gambling charges filed by his ex-girlfriend

https://i0.wp.com/i43.tinypic.com/zvvdw2.jpg

Korean actor Lee Byung-hun has been cleared of illegal gambling charges filed against him last year by his former girlfriend.

The Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office ruled Friday that “there is no evidence” Lee had been involved in habitual gambling overseas, an allegation made early December by the Korean-Canadian woman identified only by her last name Kwon.

A legal dispute between the two fired up when Kwon lodged a complaint to court saying she was allured into having a sexual relationship with the actor on his false promises of marriage and demanded she be compensated for physical and psychological damage she suffered.

She also accused the actor of gambling while on shoots overseas and distributed a photograph of the two of when they were a couple to backup her claims.

Prosecutors also acknowledged that Kwon had tried to defame Lee’s reputation, as the actor’s legal representatives had claimed through a countersuit, but ordered a stay of prosecution with Kwon having departed for Canada.

Meanwhile, baseball player-turned-TV personality Kang Byung-kyu, who too was sued by Lee, was indicted without detention for defamation and attempted blackmail.

Kang had already been indicted for his alleged involvement in an assault case on the set of TV series “Iris” which he visited in mid-December over talk that Chung Tae-won, chief of Taewon Entertainment and producer of the hit show, had spread false rumor that he was behind the feud between Lee and Kwon.

Lee, 39, has appeared in numerous Korean dramas and films, including TV series “All In” and director Park Chan-wook’s 2000 film “Joint Security Area”.

He also debuted in Hollywood last year with a supporting role in “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” alongside Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller and starred in action thriller “I Come with the Rain” with Josh Hartnett and Takuya Kimura which also showed in theaters in 2009.

►►Actor Lee Byung Hun gets offered to appear on American TV Show

Not long after his newest shocking scandal dies out a little bit, Lee Byung Hun is back on track and could potentially becomes an international TV star!

Korean heartthrob Lee Byung-hun has been offered a role in an American TV series, officials from his agency said.

The hallyu star of “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” recently traveled to Los Angeles. He flew to the U.S. directly from Tokyo right after he took part in a jewelry fair awards ceremony along with Japan’s first lady Miyuki Hatoyama. He returned home on Jan. 3.

The purpose of his trip to the U.S. was to meet with officials from American agency CAA about his possible appearance in a TV drama.

“We went there to consider a drama proposal. It’s not fixed yet. But there have been some agencies making proposals following his appearance in ‘G.I. Joe’,” representatives from his agency said.

It is said that Lee is considering diverse activities in the U.S., including filming some commercials.

Lee has already been cast in the “G.I. Joe” sequel, with his role in the film expected to be bigger than in the first one.

►►Top 10 Kissing Scenes from Korean dramas?

Though this list is certainly missing some of my favorites (Lee Seung Gi & Han Hyo Joo’s kiss in “Shining Inheritance” and Go Soo & Han Ye Seul’s kiss in “Will it snow for Christmas”), some of them are definitely winners -and trendsetters lol

MBC’s Section TV recently ranked 10 of the best kissing scenes as voted by 2,105 viewers on a recent episode. Check them out below.

1st: (IRIS) Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee caused the most stir among viewers for the romantic candy switcharoo kiss.

►►Lee Byung Hun’s verdict hearing for ex-girlfriend lawsuit set for February

I hope all things go well and may the person who’s at fault be found guilty 🙂

More info on the case can be found HERE.

The verdict hearing for Hallyu star Lee Byung-hun and his ex-girlfriend is set to take place on February 18 at the Seoul Central District Court, although neither party is likely to attend the hearing as it will be a civil trial.

On December 8, a Korean-Canadian woman, identified by the last name Kwon had filed a lawsuit against the actor for allegedly alluring her into a sexual relationship on false promises of marriage. She asked to be paid KRW 100 million won in physical and psychological damages and also accused the actor of taking part in heavy gambling overseas.

Lee had taken counter legal action against Kwon as well, suing for libel, and posted a hand-written message on his official website about the incident.

The scandal further escalated when another Korean celebrity showed up at the set of “Iris” — which Lee was starring in at the time — over talk that Chung Tae-won, CEO of Taewon Entertainment and producer of the hit TV series, had spread false rumor that he was behind the feud between Lee and Kwon.

Kwon, who reportedly returned to her hometown in Canada toward the end of last year, is unable to be reached. According to some sources, however, Kwon has agreed to cooperate with the police investigation via email and the hearing will be held without her physical attendance.

Lee, 39, is one of South Korea’s most successful actors who has appeared in numerous television dramas and films. He made his Hollywood debut last year in the action flick “G.I. Joe” and starred in Korea’s major blockbuster drama “IRIS” for which he won the grand prize at the 2009 KBS Acting Awards.

►►Actor Lee Byung Hun to appear on CNN’s “Talk Asia”

Even if you miss it, you can watch these full episodes on CNN’s website. Can’t wait to hear his Engrish English! 😉

Actor Lee Byung-hun is set to appear on CNN’s “Talk Asia” on Jan. 20.

Actor Lee Byung-hun is expected to appear on CNN’s “Talk Asia” program next week, where he is expected to talk about his recent success on the small screen in Korea and his foray onto the big screen in Hollywood.

Last year, Lee starred as Storm Shadow in Stephen Sommers’ action flick “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and played the lead character in the KBS television drama “Iris.”

Iris, which will have its season finale on Dec. 17, was a hit here and topped the ratings with an audience share of close to 40 percent. It will be shown in seven Asian countries including Japan, where Lee has a legion of fans.

Lee’s turn in G.I. Joe, which is reported to have grossed over $300 million worldwide, brought him international recognition. He has already signed on to appear in the sequel, which is reported to begin shooting in the second half of the year. But Lee nearly threw the opportunity away, as a press release containing excerpts from the interview revealed.

“When I first heard about G.I. Joe from my agent, I didn’t know what it was,” he said.
“I refused the offer at first. But everyone told me to do it and said it was a huge opportunity.”

“One of my very good friends, Park Chan-wook, who made ‘Oldboy,’ said to me, ‘If you really want to go to Hollywood, why don’t you do it? It will be a very good opportunity.'”

Lee’s year has not passed without drama. He and his ex-girlfriend traded a spate of accusations in a very public scandal that damaged his reputation and resulted in a lawsuit.

Talk Asia accompanies Lee onto the red carpet at the opening night of the 14th Pusan International Film Festival in October, and follows him to the Iris set.

The program featuring Lee will be aired on Jan. 20, followed by several reruns on the network. After the first broadcast, it will also be available online at http://www.cnn.com/talkasia.

►►List of Celebrities with the highest earnings revealed

TVXQ, who is currently in a dispute with their agency, caught the attention of many by having the highest annual earnings this year despite the unfavorable conditions they are currently in.

tvN ENEWS’ ‘blackbox’ corner that was aired on the 20th ranked the celebrities with the top ten annual earnings this year.

The celebrity with the highest earnings was TVXQ, followed by Rain, Big Bang, Super Junior, Kim Hyun Joon, Go Hyun Jung, Girls’ Generation, Lee Byung Hun, Yoo Jae Seok and Kang Ho Dong.

It was found that TVXQ earned at least 126.4 billion Won (equivalent to approximately 109 million USD) this year when their 90 billion Won earnings from Japanese album sales are taken into account.

However, this news is overshadowed by the fact that TVXQ is currently fighting a legal dispute with their agency SM Entertainment over an ‘unfair contract’ and have even been driven to the brink of a disbandment.

Newsway announcer/reporter Jung Soo Ryang stated, “TVXQ was able to reap such earning regardless of the fact that they are in such unfavorable conditions with the legal dispute,” and “If there had been no legal dispute, they would have earned much more than this amount.”

She also added, “If TVXQ, who has evolved from just a domestic star to a Hallyu star of Asia, cannot overcome these unfortunate conditions and disband, not only will this be a huge loss to our country’s entertainment industry, it will also be a loss at a nationwide scale,” and “I hope to see TVXQ come to a reasonable agreement with their agency and return to the stage in good spirits.”

ENEWS’ ‘Blackbox’ airs every Wednesday and brings experts of many fields to the panel to discuss controversial events of the entertainment industry.

►►Kwon Mi Yeon, “I could cancel the lawsuit if Lee Byung Hun publicly apologizes””

But the question is, will he?

Catch up with the initial story/scandal HERE.

A media reporter who had interviewed Kwon Mi-Yeon (Diana Kwon) reported that what Kwon Mi-Yeon wants is public apology from Lee Byung-Hun. And she is willing to cancel her lawsuit if her wish comes true.

Through KBS  TV show “Yeo-Yoo-Man-Man” that aired on Dec. 28th, the reporter told that Kwon Mi-Yeon strongly wishes Lee Byung-Hun to pay for all his wrong doings and demanded his apology.

However, on the other side, Lee Byung-Hun’s lawyer told, “We haven’t been investigated by police. We haven’t been directly contacted by Kwon Mi-Yeon’s people either.”

►►Top 10 stories (breaking news) for Korean Entertainment in 2009

Year 2009 is a mix of triumphs and failures for the Korean entertainment industry.

The popularity of hallyu, or the Korean wave, continued to captivate fans in different Asian countries, notably Japan and in the Southeast Asian region. One girl band succeeded in entering the Billboard charts.

From the rise of musical and film talents to scandals, 2009 was a vibrant (and bitter) year for Korean entertainment.

Here’s our top 10 stories for 2009:

1. TVXQ and Super Junior lawsuits…
2. Boys over Flowers…
3. Rise of girl bands
The success of Girls Generation (or SNSD), Wonder Girls, and 2NE1 proved that 2009 was a year for female pop groups in Korea. The year marked the rise of girl bands in K-pop. Besides the three, other all-female K-pop groups who’ve made significant impact include Brown Eyed Girls, T-Ara, KARA, Davichi, 4Minute, f(x), and After School. SNSD ruled Korea in 2009 with their song “Gee” and bagged major awards.
4. Wonderful Wonder Girls
Entering the US entertainment industry has been a dream for many Korean artists—one that Wonder Girls successfully fulfilled this year. Not only did Wonder Girls tour with the Jonas Brothers, their song “Nobody” entered the Billboard Top 100, a first for a Korean pop group. They will launch their first US album next year.
5. Jaebum leaves 2PM…
6. Suicide… [Jang Ja-Yeon, Woo Seung-Yeon]
7. Rain’s lawsuit…
8. Korean stars enter Hollywood… [Lee Byung-Hun, Rain, Daniel Henney, Jeon Ji-Hyun]
9. Korean film “Thirst” triumphs in Cannes…
10. Scandals [G-Dragon, Joo Ji-Hoon, Lee Byung-Hun, Super Junior’s Kangin]

►►Kim Hyun Joong won #3 ‘Best Actor of the Year’ award; high expectations in 2010

Although 2009 has been bad for some artists, Kim Hyun Joong (SS501) certainly had his big shot this year as a debuting actor.

Actress Ko Hyun Jung (Queen Seonduk) can smile happily in year 2009. Ko Hyun Jung won the ‘Best Actor of the year’ with a total points of 392.8 in the Annual Star Award. Graded by 100 professional judges, Goo Hyun Jung won 49% (392 points), almost half of the total votes and mobile votes of 0.4% (0.8points), winning the champion.

Lee Byung Hun (IRIS) won the 2nd with a total points of 200.2 points. 25% professional votes and mobile votes of 0.1%.

Younger actors are also active and outshine. Idol group SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong and new comer Lee Min Ho who started the ‘Flower boy’ wave after ‘Boys over Flowers’ was broadcast, won 3rd & 4th. They have very high popularity. Both Kim Hyun Joong and Lee Min Ho gain 1% support by the professional judges, but in the mobile votes, Kim Hyun Joong has a total votes of 53.2% whereas Lee Min Ho has a total votes of 39.8%.

The judging method for the Annual Star Award is by adding 80% Professional Votes and 20 % Mobile Votes.

►►10Asia’s Top 10 [most influential] people of 2009

I added “most influential” because it makes more sense and it fits better with the description ^^;

In the entertainment industry, the end of a year is a season about watching and talking about “people”. Many media outlets select their “person of the year” and people flock to year-end awards shows to hear a quote from stars that they do not get to see often. <10Asia> picked our own figures of the year, but there is no red carpet or photo spotlights for the stars to enter upon. Our selection of “persons of 2009” are not top stars who attained the most popularity from the public, but people who changed the landscape of Korea’s entertainment industry and stimulated the public with experiences that we had not had before.

Actress Ko Hyun Joung

“Now is the era of Mi-shil”. Mi-shil’s statement in the first episode of MBC’s “Queen Seon-deok” opened “the era of Ko Hyun-joung” as well. Ko said that she chose the role of Mi-shil because she “wanted to escape the arrows flying at the lead character”, but the powerfully charismatic Mi-shil will be remembered as one of the most memorable characters in the history of Korean traditional dramas. And it was the perfect opportunity for Ko to break out her acting skills that she had kept repressed all these years and with this drama, she proclaimed to the world that she had “really made a comeback” since returning to the industry in 2004. Her film “Actresses”, which opened in December, offers a look into the personal life and inner side of this extraordinary actress, but after everything that she has gone through, Ko proved one thing and one thing only; for an actor, acting is what matters.

Producer Kim C

Kang Ho-dong, the MC and leader of KBS’s variety program “One Night Two Days”, calls him “Sir Kim”. This symbolically shows that producer Kim C holds a unique and unprecedented position in Korean variety shows. He is truly a “one of a kind loner” who cannot be allured into the world of Kang Ho-dong, who is known for leading other members with his charisma. He is so unfazed by set-ups and ratings that people sometimes accuse of him of not trying hard enough, but that is what makes “One Night Two Days” so real and lively and what made the KBS show “Invincible Baseball Team”, where he was recruited as coach, into a baseball variety program. The more he cursed and shouted at the players on the show, the more it helped in making the show real. It is ironic that he became the most essential figure on the two most prominent variety shows of 2009 by breaking free from the conventional rules of television. The current trend in Korean variety shows regards pre-established direction and set-ups as corny, so his seemingly unimpressed expressions and honest dialogue may serve as the best blue chip.

►►Kwon Mi Yeon’s mother, “I feel stupid to once believe that Lee Byung Hun is a responsible person”

To protect her daughter from the bad scandal with “IRIS” actor Lee Byung Hun,  Kwon Mi-Yeon’s mother came to Korea on Dec. 9th and publicly announced that she wanted to meet Lee Byung-Hun’s mother in person.

http://popseoul.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/leebyunghun_2001213.jpg

Through announced statements, Kwon Mi-Yeon’s mother stated, “As a mom who had watched my daughter’s relationship for more than a year, I feel stupid to once believe that Lee Byung-Hun is a responsible person and person who keeps his promise well. I cannot forgive him (Lee Byung-Hun) who is claiming that we are all doing this (lawsuit) for money.”

She continued, “The reason why I had came to Korea was to meet Lee Byung-Hun’s mother. If your son makes a mistake, he should be corrected even if he is 40 years old. I will call you (Lee Byung-Hun’s mother) so let’s meet up.”

►►Kang Byung Kyu threatens to sue the producer of “IRIS” for assault and blackmail

Kang Byung Kyu is the guy who supposedly accused Lee Byung Hun of luring his ex-gf Kwon Mi Yeon into bed

In the latest scandal involving the KBS hit action-drama “Iris”, Kang Byung Kyu, 37, baseball pitcher-turned TV entertainer, said he is going to sue the producer of the drama for assault and blackmail.

Kang was accused of bringing in gangsters and causing a disturbance on the set of Iris in Songpa District, southern Seoul, at around 1 a.m. last Monday. He visited the set to protest to the producer whom Kang claims to have spread the rumor that he was behind the feud between Lee Byung Hun, a star of Iris, and his former girlfriend Kwon Mi Yeon.

Kwon has filed a lawsuit against Lee, saying he lured her into a sexual relationship under the false promises of marriage. Lee has denied the charge and pledged to file a lawsuit of his own, escalating the situation into a nasty legal battle.

Kang went to the police at around noon today for investigation into his alleged disturbance, but citing emotional pressure stemming from the presence of many journalists, he postponed his testimony.

Instead, he held a press conference, where he said it was the producer of Iris that called in the mob. Kang also characterized himself as the victim, claiming he was subject to a beating for about half an hour. He added that he will file the official complaint to the police soon.

So much drama going on that I think the outside drama is even more intense than the drama in “IRIS” itself =.=;

►►[Interview] Lee Byung-hun’s accuser Kwon Mi Yeon speaks up

Lee Byung Hun’s estranged ex-girlfriend, Kwon Mi Yeon (22) was interviewed by Korean online news site, Newsis where she revealed her side of the relationship with the actor.

kwonmiyeon.jpg

When did you first meet Lee Byung-hun?

Last year in September. Lee Byung-hun was in Canada to promote the film, “The Good, the Bad and The Weird”…from the first moment, he showed strong interest…even when he flew to New York after leaving Toronto, he kept contacting me. And after New York, he came back to Canada. He said it was to see me. At the time, I thought he really liked me.

What did you like about him?

When Lee Byung-hun wanted to come back to Canada from the U.S., I told him that if he wanted to just have fun for a night, then he should fly straight to Korea. However, he told me that I was special….and because of that, he wanted to see me again. Afterwards, he introduced to his friends, and even invited me to his house…I believed him. He kept his word. If he said he would call at a certain time, he would.

So Lee Byung-hun invited you to visit Korea and you came?

Last year in October, he send the plane fare to my mother’s account and told me to visit him in Korea. So in November, I visited Korea. For 10 days I stayed with Lee Byung-hun at his home in Bundang. He introduced me to his family and friends as his girlfriend. I hung out with his mother and sister…and went out drinking and traveling with his friends. That year at the end of December to January 2009, we spent the holidays in Las Vegas at M hotel. Also, he invited me to go to Las Vegas with him again in April.

So why did you leave everything behind to live in Korea?

Lee Byung-hun introduced me to his friends and family and acted as if we were going to get married. His Japanese sponsor, Mr A told me that if I live in Korea, I can go to university there. Lee Byung-hun told me to move to Korea and that he promised that he will take care of everything. I moved to Korea with the blessing of my mother.

What about the demand for 2 billion won?

Who started the demands, I don’t know. But everything is being processed through the courts. I have the evidence.

After filing a lawsuit against the actor because of broken promises of marriage, Lee Byung-heon’s ex-girlfriend, Kwon Mi-yeon, has posted pictures in order to prove their relationship.

Obviously, there was a lot of backlash against the girl after she filed the lawsuit on December 8th, and then accusing Lee Byung-heon of illegal gambling on December 10th. So, Ms. Kwon decided to prove the validity of their relationship by posting candid pictures (above and at the end) of her and “G.I. Joe” actor.

Before these pictures surfaced, Lee Byung-heon had posted the following letter to his fans on his homepage.

►►Lee Byung Hun’s message about the ‘scandal’ on his official website

To read more about his scandal, go HERE.

Lee Byung Hun posted a message on his official website in Korean and a Japanese message on the Japanese website and of course, there is no English translation. Here it is thanks to baidu here in Chinese. I’ll translate it based on their translation. You could repost this translation but please put a link back to this thread.

https://i0.wp.com/londonkoreanlinks.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/lee-byung-hun1.jpg

“I am Lee Byung Hun. I really don’t know where to start. It’s been a while while since I haven’t talked to all of you. I am glad that I could talk to all of you this way.

Even though the management company and the lawyer has strongly objected to it, I know that there are indeed many people who worry about me and so I pick up the pen.

At the moment, untruthful rumors are being spread and perhaps in future, such things will continue to happen. Even if a lot of time has to be spent, through legal means, it will all be gradually clarified.

But, most important of all, what should be retained as good memories, at the moment, it is a sad case of it being distorted. Also, no matter what is the cause, that two persons who once felt important to each other have now descended to such a state, that is the most hurtful of all realities.

As an actor, from the beginning till now, towards those inexplicable matters or purposefully distorted matters, I believe keeping quiet should be the wisest method. In future, I wouldn’t change this way of thinking much. This has been my style of life. The matters that I believe in do not require language but my true sincerity to feel it.

Because of this matter, I cause you all worry. But at the moment, the work in front of me has not yet been completed. I could not add to the troubles to those who I work with. For now, all I could do is to do my best in what was entrusted to me. Just like before.

I urge you all to also do as just like before. Please keep your spirits up. I would maintain this position and would not budge. Thank you.”

►►Lee Byung Hun denies scandalous accuse of him

pheww…I hope he’s right

https://i0.wp.com/men.stareastasia.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/lee-byung-hun-pic-0001.jpg

On December 8, Lee Byung Hun caused a stir in Korea when ex-girlfriend Kwon Mi Yeon accused the IRIS & G.I. Joe star of causing physical and mental suffering during their allegedly tumultuous relationship. The actor has finally come out with a press release addressing the matter. Although he admitted that he had indeed shared a relationship with Kwon, Lee denied her accusations and promised to defend himself against this lawsuit.

I have never done anything I should be ashamed of as a public figure,” Lee said firmly. “I will fight these vicious accusations through the law.”

And that’s not all – on the 9th, Lee expressed that a few anonymous men had contacted him earlier in 2009, blackmailing him and threatening to reveal his relationship unless he gave them 2 billion won (1.7 million USD). BH Entertainment also revealed that Lee has asked prosecutors to look into Kwon’s false (?) accusations, possibly for slander and a maybe even a countersuit.

Lee Byung Hun is under fire for supposedly toying with a girl.

22 year old Kwon Mi Yeon from Canada, claims to be Lee Byung Hun’s ex-girlfriend. She also claims that Lee Byung Hun tricked her into bed by promising marriage, and has suffered emotionally as a result.

On the 8th, Kwon Mi Yeon filed a $100,000 claim with the Seoul Central District Court against Lee Byung Hun for damages and emotional suffering.

Prior to meeting Lee Byung Hun, Kwon Mi Yeon was attending York University and majoring in Rhythmic Gymnastics as a National athlete for Canada. She claims to have met him in September 2008, while Lee Byung Hun came to Toronto, Canada to promote his movie “The Good, The Bad, The Weird.”

Kwon Mi Yeon stated, “I was introduced to Lee Byung Hun through an acquaintance. He gave me tickets to his movie and we become closer naturally. Shortly after, Lee Byung Hun left for New York, but called me regularly. About 1 week later, towards the end of September, Lee Byung Hun came back to Toronto and we began our full-fledged relationship.

She also stated that after Lee Byung Hun left for Korea, they still kept in touch via phone and email, “At the end of last year, I visited Korea and spent around 10 days with him at his home. Lee Byung Hun also introduced me as his girlfriend to his mother, younger sister and of course his friends.”

Kwon also revealed: “The sponsor of Lee Byung Hun, Chairman A told me, “I will let you continue your career in athletics as well as academics by supporting you through college, so leave Canada for Korea to live with Lee Byung Hun.” So I left Canada to go to Seoul last July (2009) and lived with him in an apartment in the district of Jamshil. But not even 3 months in, I was thrown out. After I arrived in Korea, Lee Byung Hun’s attitude changed. After he kicked me out, he gave me ~$10,000 for my troubles and found me a ~$700 rental. Afterwards he has ignored me as if he doesn’t even know me.
